The Starving Activist is the sometimes-home for words. AR Neal (that’s me) finds them, cultivates them, and leaves them here. Enjoy.

Scribe's Cave Picture Prompt: Keeping Up Appearances

I wish there was an easier way, but the doc says this is my only choice. I mean, I could always go back to the docks, or try and get on at the factory, but where's the fun in that? I saw the carny crew once as a kid and never forgot it. Yep, that's the life for me, I said -- livin' in that train, ridin' across the country, girl in every town. You know the deal.Problem was, I didn't have no carny skill. I got both my arms and legs, no extra parts, can't swallow swords -- plus Joe already does that. But this carny didn't have a strong man so that was my angle. I went to the doc and asked him to give me something for strength, you know, something to pump me. These electric treatments hurt like the dickens but they work. See that skin? That ol' coyote didn't have a chance. With bare hands I did that. Now if I can just keep coming every few months, I'll have a lifelong gig.

I have been watching "American Horror Story - Freak Show" and this picture put me in mind of Elsa and the gang, so I give a nod to them with my 177 words for this week's SCPP. Click the photo to link up.
